Author Guidelines
Authors are invited to submit prospective articles to this journal. All prospective articles will be evaluated by the editors to determine whether they meet the aims and scope of the journal.
Before submitting a prospective article, it is the authors' responsibility to obtain permission to publish any material included in the article (such as photographs, documents, and datasets). All authors listed in the prospective article must acknowledge and declare their authorship. If the type of prospective article requires it, the study must be approved by an ethics committee in accordance with the legal requirements of the country where the study was conducted.
Editors may reject prospective articles without sending them for peer review if they do not meet minimum quality standards. Before submitting a prospective article, please ensure that the study design and research argument are properly structured and articulated. The title should be concise, and the abstract should be able to convey the content of the article on its own. This will facilitate the peer review process for the reviewers.
Once you ensure that your prospective article meets these requirements, please review the checklist below and complete any missing items.
1. Article Format and Technical Requirements
-
File Structure: Articles should be prepared in Microsoft Word (.docx) format as two separate files: a "Blind Review Version" (containing no author information) and a "Publication Version" (including author details).
-
Font and Size: The main text must be written in Calibri, 12 pt. Line spacing should be 1.15, with 0 pt spacing before and 3 pt after paragraphs.
-
Abstract: It should be between 150-200 words and written in the IMRAD format (Introduction, Methods, Results, and Discussion). An English abstract is mandatory and must perfectly match the Turkish text.
-
Keywords: A minimum of 5 and a maximum of 7 keywords should be used, referring to relevant terminology in the field of onomastics.
-
Funding Details: If your research is supported by any institution or organization, the details must be stated in a footnote: "This study was supported by [Funding Agency] under the project/research number [xxxx]."
-
Generative AI Statement: If artificial intelligence tools or technologies were used in the study, a necessary explanation must be provided in a footnote in the relevant section of the study.
2. Turkic World and Onomastics Special Standards
Our journal mandates the following rules, considering technical sensitivities in Turkic world studies:
-
Terminology and Classification: Terms used in research must conform to international onomastic standards.
-
Transcription: Scientific transcription marks must be used completely for names transferred from Turkic dialects or historical texts (Old Turkic, Uyghur, Ottoman Turkish, etc.). Unicode fonts must be preferred for proper character display. If a custom font is used, the font file must also be submitted.
-
Etymological Analysis: In name analyses, root, stem, and affix separations must be visually clear (e.g., Kızıl + yar > Kızılyar), and the morphological structure must be supported by comparative dictionaries of the Turkic world.
3. Section Structure (IMRAD)
Articles should follow this systematic order:
-
Introduction: Problem statement, aim, and significance of the study.
-
Literature Review: Existing studies on the subject and the study's original value.
-
Methods: Research model, data collection tools, classifications, and analysis techniques.
-
Results: Presentation of the obtained data (supported by tables, maps, and graphics).
-
Discussion and Conclusion: Comparison of findings with literature and suggestions for future studies.
4. Citation and Reference Format
Our journal applies the APA 7.0 format.
-
Archival Sources: Archival documents frequently used in Turkic world research (Vakfiyes, Tahrir Registers, etc.) should appear with abbreviations in the text (BOA, TD 435) and with full bibliographic details in the reference list.
-
DOI Number: If available, DOI numbers of the articles must be included in the reference list.
4.1. In-Text Citation Examples
The parenthetical system is used for in-text citations. Stating the page number is mandatory.
